Current Research Focus:

My research interests are focusing on identification and characterization of QTL responsible for resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN, Heterodera glycines Ichinohe) and soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi). Using recombinant inbred lines (RIL), I am developing the residual heterozygous lines (RHL) for the development of near-isogenic lines (NIL), which will be utilized for subsequent fine-mapping of identified QTL. These results, in turn, will enable to conduct positional cloning of candidate genes conveying resistance to the pathogens above mentioned.

In collaboration with other colleagues, I am also interested in the development of molecular markers, such as simple sequence repeat (SSR) and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP), that are associated with the traits of interest and useful for marker-assisted selection (MAS). In addition, I am coordinating a study of transcription factors (TFs) profiling in attempts to understand the regulatory mechanism of SCN resistance and identify gene(s) underlying this trait in soybean.
